ENROLLMENT
"Discover Stony Brook" Event Scheduled for April
The Office of Admissions will host a select group of out-of-state admitted students
and parents on Friday, April 5th. As a prelude to our Admitted Student Days, "Discover Stony Brook" will include a panel of SBU experts, campus tour, and dinner
reception with key faculty, administrators and current students at the Hilton Garden
Inn. This new initiative will increase visibility of the multitude of opportunities
and outcomes for undergraduates, and foster a greater sense of community.
College Counselors to Visit SBU
Admissions staff will be hosting a group of approximately 50 out-of-state high school
counselors in May in an effort to showcase the dynamic and diverse academic and co-curricular
opportunities available to their students. The three-day event will include panel
presentations, campus and lab tours, receptions and conversations with key faculty,
administrators and current students, as well as an introduction to the scenic Three
Village and Southampton regions. Counselors will then share our vibrant story with
their students and parents, sparking future enrollment to our campus.
Representing the Health Professions
The Health Sciences Office of Student Services will attend the Division of Undergraduate
Education's Major/Minor Event on March 27, from 1:00 PM - 2:20 PM in SAC Ballroom
A. We encourage you to refer any students interested in East Campus programs to meet
with our staff.

CURRENT INITIATIVES
ACE Program Thrives
Stony Brook's Accelerated College Education (ACE) Program has reached new heights
this year, enrolling approximately 2,400 students from 35 high schools across New
York, in 40 different Stony Brook courses. The program provides students with the
academic challenges of college-level classes within a high school setting, allowing
them to begin making degree progress before their first year of college. In some instances,
due to the large number of courses offered at some participating high schools, students
can earn a semester's worth of credits through the program.
Plans are in place to continue growth in the 2019-20 school year, with several new
high schools joining the program and existing schools expanding their offerings. Herricks
High School will be joining with classes in French, Italian, Spanish and Chinese. Biological Anthropology
will be offered at Riverhead High School, and three American Sign Language courses
will be added at East Meadow High School and Oyster Bay-East Norwich High School.
There are two key components to the success of the program. The first is the enthusiasm
and dedication of high school teachers in introducing curricula that excites and engages
their students. The second is the continued commitment of the Stony Brook faculty
in supporting the ACE Program by working with high school teachers and administrators
on curriculum alignment and selection.
