SBU student take part in effort to help Puerto Rico rebuild

Rebecca Mueller traveled to Puerto Rico with a group of other SUNY students to help rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Maria, which left much of the island in the dark and under water.

Stony Brook Joins New York State Initiative to Aid Puerto Rico

Stony Brook occupational therapy graduate student Nicole Carrasquillo was busy trying to figure out ways to help hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico when a golden opportunity landed in her lap: Governor Andrew E. Cuomo’s NY Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery and Rebuilding Initiative.

Hurricane Maria Relief for Puerto Rico

Stony Brook Medicine is responding to the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico with plans to send physicians, nurses, staff and supplies to the storm-ravaged area. The Stony Brook University School of Medicine is preparing to accommodate students from the Medical School in Puerto Rico as well, and encourages other Schools to consider the possibility of accepting corresponding students in need .

 Puerto Rico Relief Team Returns Home

There were hugs and happy tears all around, when 23 Stony Brook Medicine members returned home November 8 after more than two weeks of treating patients in Puerto Rico.

Relief supplies are being collected at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. Donations will go to the Empire State Relief Effort.

Summary of Funds/Items Collected

Island Harvest recieved 1414 pounds of food, water, personal items and clothes.

Donation of $2, 300.

Disaster Relief events collected $500.

Hispanic Heritage Month Baskets  $960.

Dance for Puerto Rico approximately $600
