2017 - 2018 Academic Year

Call for Papers

Walls: Migration, Confinement, and (Im)mobility

The new Center for the Study of Inequality, Social Justice, and Policy at Stony Brook University calls for proposals from scholars who would like to present a written portion of their work-in-progress that falls within this year’s theme of “Walls: Migration, Confinement, and (Im)Mobility.”

About the Center: Our Center seeks to plan events and foster broadly interdisciplinary discussions that illuminate the interlocking relationships between inequality and systems of oppression defined by class, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, geography, and other markers of constructed difference.  We feature five thematic clusters of interest: Labor and Class Studies, Carceral Studies, Immigration and Mobility Studies, Race and Social Justice Studies and Environmental Justice Studies.

About the works-in-progress: The WIP group will meet on the Stony Brook West Campus three times during the 2017 -2018 academic year. Each meeting will feature the work of three presenters, whose work will be put into dialogue and will receive feedback by the audience. This group is open for all interested faculty, students, and independent scholars to attend. Invited presenters will be expected to provide a pre-circulated electronic version of their work to all participants in advance of the meeting, and will be responsible for their own travel.

We invite interested scholars to please submit a 250-word abstract and a brief CV to: StudyOfISJP@gmail.com with subject line “WIP group” by October 7, 2017.  We welcome pieces of work from a wide range of disciplines, subject areas, and approaches.

If you would like to be placed on the email list to receive announcements of upcoming presentations, please send an e-mail with subject line “email list” to: StudyOfISJP@gmail.com.
