Facilities & Services
Housed within the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences and the Department of Civil Engineering, the Center for Clean Water Technology has developed an extensive and unique suite of core analytical capabilities to evaluate water treatment technologies and to investigate the fate and transport of contaminants wastewater, groundwater and surface waters. The CCWT Analytical Facility at Stony Brook University is home to analytical instrumentation and sample processing equipment.
In addition to the on-campus facilities, the Center operates a state-of-the-art Wastewater Research & Innovation Facility (WRIF) for the purpose of developing an affordable onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) that reduces total nitrogen to less than 10 mg/L prior to groundwater discharge. Located on Parson Drive, the facility is a working laboratory that utilizes domestic sewage collected at the Suffolk County Sewer District No. 10 pumping station for actual use within the facility.
