Maintaining Our Fire Alarm Systems
Today we recognized Gary Leigh-Manuell, one of our valued vendor employees, who is celebrating 50 Years of Service with Johnson Control (Simplex). Gary is NICET Level III Certified and a Site Supervisor for Stony Brook University. He started his career with Simplex in March 1975 and has been assigned to Stony Brook his entire career.
When Gary started at Stony Brook, John Toll was University President, Professor Paul Lauterbur developed the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and the HSC and Hospital were still under construction. Gary has been involved in all phases of planning, installation, acceptance testing, inspection, maintenance and repair of the campus fire alarm system. The fire alarm system has quadrupled in size, now with more than 60 thousand devices in over 200 buildings.
Gary is an invaluable member of our EH&S team and has contributed greatly to ensuring the integrity of the fire alarm system. He is literally on call 24/7 and frequently responds to campus emergencies to restore systems damaged from flooding rains, fire, or other incidents. Even under the toughest of circumstances, Gary has risen to the challenge and would find resourceful ways to patch systems when parts had to be ordered. Please join me in congratulating Gary for his years of service and for his caring commitment and support of our fire and life safety program.
