Since 1982, the Program in Korean Studies at Stony Brook has been a vital hub both for academic and community activities related to Korea on Long Island. As one of the undergraduate minors of SUNY Stony Brook, it currently offers more than a dozen courses in Korean Studies along with diverse opportunities for research of Korea and internships. The Center for Korean Studies at Stony Brook has been established to pursue advanced academic accomplishments in the field of Korean Studies, especially those concern Korean religions and philosophy. Many publication projects, including the ongoing Collected Works of Wonhyo project, have been conducted by the Center; this has resulted in the publications of dozens of books about Korea. It also provides a visiting scholar program promoting the intellectual exchange between Korea and US academe; more than seventy prominent scholars from Korea have participated in the program to date. In addition, as Stony Brook University currently has sister relationships with six universities in Korea, its student exchange program is currently one of the most vital aspects of the Center.
