Master’s Degree Programs

Graduate pathways to NYS teaching certification

Stony Brook’s master's degree programs prepare new graduates or career changers to become New York State-certified teachers.

Prospective students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in the relevant content area are eligible for admission. Our master's students pursue a rigorous course of study, combining subject area and professional education courses with fieldwork and student teaching experience. Our graduates emerge with the deep content knowledge and pedagogical expertise needed to become effective teachers.

Our Master of Arts in Teaching English, Foreign Languages, Mathematics and Sciences lead to certification in grades 7-12 (with an optional grade 5-6) extension). Our MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and the Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology lead to P-12 certification. The programs are offered by the School of Professional Development, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Health Professions. Select a program below to learn more.
