About the Office of Strategic Research Initiatives (OSRI)

The Office of Strategic Research Initiatives (OSRI) is a unit of OR&I with a focus on working with Stony Brook researchers pre-solicitation and supporting institutional research strategy. We grow Stony Brook’s research enterprise by ensuring that our faculty are prepared to pursue future opportunities, including center-scale initiatives that address grand challenges. In an increasingly competitive funding landscape, we gather intelligence, monitor funding trends, forecast opportunities, and collaborate with units across Stony Brook to provide our researchers with a competitive edge. We also serve as a resource for Stony Brook researchers seeking to understand how state and federal policy may affect funding, and help them position themselves and their research or workforce development efforts for success. We additionally facilitate researchers in proactively building the relationships that are integral to large-scale funding opportunities – convening stakeholders, developing interdisciplinary teams and cross-sector partnerships, and catalyzing new ideas.
