Diversity Statement
Stony Brook itself is a highly diverse campus in terms of faculty, staff and students, and the School strives to reflect that diversity.
Founded in 2006 as the School of Journalism, we were renamed the School of Communication and Journalism in 2021. We are home to over 300 students and over 30 faculty members. Over 65% of our faculty hold terminal degrees. The School of Communication and Journalism is home to the Marie Colvin Center for International Reporting and the Center for News Literacy.
Our Mission
The School of Communication and Journalism educates the next generations of communication, journalism, and media leaders, practitioners, scholars, and professionals. It supports and integrates effective science and health communication research and practice, and explores, defines and strengthens the role of engaged communication in society.
Our Vision
The world's most complex and pressing problems require honest, inclusive, effective, fact-based communication. We envision a world that takes seriously the need for communication across all forms, platforms and institutions.
