Russell Erfan

russell erfan

Russell Erfan is a rising senior at Stony Brook University studying Sociology with a minor in Chemistry. He serves as president of the Undergraduate Student Government, which represents over 18,000 undergraduates, and each year distributes over $1.3 million to student clubs, produces large-scale campus events, and advances policies that shape daily student life.

Before becoming president, Russell served as executive vice president and senate chair, where he led three major governance reforms through Senate proceedings, including a student activity fee increase that stabilized club funding, created the Senate Rep Program to give every campus club a direct communication line to the USG Senate, and opened budget deliberations that had previously been closed-door to clubs. He also co-founded Nexus, a platform that made over 900 faculty research profiles searchable for students and grew to 5,300 monthly users.

Outside of USG, Russell is a research assistant preparing a manuscript on socioeconomic factors in cognitive aging and a clinical intern at Bellevue Hospital. He looks forward to bringing a student perspective to the Stony Brook Council!
