tour, equipment repair, meetings, workshops, consultations. For the purposes of this
procedure, access also includes visual exposure through glass or open doors if the
laboratory has export controlled items and/or information.

Stony Brook University Export Control Policy defines Campus Community. Campus Community includes but is not limited to all faculty
(including voluntary, lecturers, and adjuncts); research personnel (including research
staff, post-doctoral fellows, research associates); visiting scientists and scholars,
students (graduate and undergraduate involved in research activities); visiting scholars,
consultants or other volunteers involved in research activities; non-research staff
in departments, centers, institutes, colleges, administrative offices that are involved
with transactions covered under the policy.
Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) for items controlled under the Export
Administration Regulations, the US Munitions List (USML) category for any items controlled
under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, or the category for any items
controlled under the Nuclear Regulatory regulations.
Member of the Campus Community that is inviting the International Visitor to the University.
A foreign person that is neither salaried by the University nor a student accepted
into a formal program of study at the University.
Technology or technical data. Export controlled information is: proprietary information,
restricted access government information, research data subject to publication/dissemination
restrictions, information being provided as part of a defense service (whether or
not the information is publicly available),
Acquired hardware, materials, or software for use in the conduct of research, education,
or service as well as items created in the course of fundamental or restricted research.
This definition is not to be used for EH&S purposes
A building, part of a building, or other place equipped to conduct scientific experiments,
tests, investigations, etc., or to manufacture chemicals, medicines, or the like.
Any place, situation, set of conditions, or the like, conducive to experimentation,
investigation, observation, etc., anything suggestive of a scientific laboratory.
The member of the Campus Community that initiates the shipment or transfer and has
the capacity to provide the information required to classify the items being shipped/transferred.
Any faculty, staff or student traveling internationally to conduct any Activity on
behalf of the University in a foreign country.
