Maximilian Tegtmeyer’s research focuses on reviving insights regarding the significance
of self-consciousness from Early Modern and Classical German Philosophy for contemporary
thinking in the philosophy of mind and epistemology. He has wide interests in the
history of philosophy, ranging from Ancient Greek Philosophy to 19th and 20th Century
European Philosophy.
Prior to joining Stony Brook University, Max taught at the National University of Singapore (2022-2025). He received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh (2022), his MPhilStud in Philosophy from King's College London (2015), and his BA in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics from Heidelberg University (2011).
