About Us

Your Money. Your Goals. Your Future.

Financial wellness is an important part of student success, both during college and beyond. At Stony Brook University, we believe students should have access to the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to make informed financial decisions and develop healthy financial habits.

Our financial wellness initiatives bring together Money Smart Seawolves and Seawolves' Financial Gameplan, two complementary programs designed to help students build financial confidence at every stage of their college experience.

Whether you're looking for answers to a specific financial question, interested in attending a workshop, or ready to develop your financial skills through a structured program, there is an opportunity to learn that fits your needs.

Two Programs. One Shared Mission.

Money Smart Seawolves

Learn what you need, when you need it.

Money Smart Seawolves, offered through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services in collaboration with the Stony Brook University Career Center, provides flexible financial education designed to meet students where they are in their financial journey.

Rather than following a set curriculum, students can explore financial wellness topics based on their current needs, interests, and goals. From understanding financial aid and scholarships to creating a budget, building savings, managing credit, and preparing for student loan repayment, Money Smart Seawolves provides practical guidance for financial decisions encountered throughout college.

The program also offers financial wellness presentations by request for student organizations, residence halls, classes, university departments, and other campus groups. Presentations can focus on specific financial topics relevant to each audience.

Seawolves' Financial Gameplan

Follow the plan. Build the skills. Prepare for what's next.

Seawolves' Financial Gameplan, offered through the Stony Brook University Career Center in collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services, provides a more structured approach to developing lifelong financial wellness skills.

Through a series of four interactive workshops offered throughout the academic year, students have an opportunity to build financial knowledge, reflect on their personal financial habits, and develop strategies that support their goals.

The program focuses on four key areas:

  • Budgeting: Understanding income, spending, and how to create a financial plan.

  • Emergency Savings: Learning the importance of financial preparedness and building a savings cushion.

  • Credit Confidence: Understanding credit and its role in future financial opportunities.

  • Money Mindset: Exploring how experiences, attitudes, and behaviors influence financial decisions.

Unlike individual presentations, Seawolves' Financial Gameplan encourages students to participate in a connected series of workshops that support continued learning and personal growth.

Students who complete all four workshops by graduation can earn a Financial Wellness graduation cord, recognizing their commitment to building practical financial knowledge and preparing for their financial future.
