Overview

This project will establish a new, 15,000-square-foot nursing simulation center at Stony Brook University, expanding the School of Nursing's capacity to deliver hands-on clinical education and training. The facility will incorporate advanced simulation technologies and high-fidelity clinical environments designed to replicate real-world healthcare settings, enhance student learning and support growing regional healthcare workforce needs.

Key Highlights

  • Development of a state-of-the-art simulation center featuring advanced technologies and realistic clinical training environments.
  • Expanded hands-on training opportunities in critical areas of nursing practice, including labor and delivery, high-acuity care and community health.
  • Increased capacity to accommodate nursing students and support enrollment growth.
  • Support for Stony Brook University's designation as one of three State University of New York (SUNY) Regional Nursing Simulation Centers.

Impact

The new simulation center will expand access to experiential learning opportunities and enhance the School of Nursing's ability to prepare students for complex clinical environments. Currently, space limitations require students to rotate through the existing Learning Resource Center in small groups. The dedicated facility will increase training capacity, improve instructional efficiency and provide greater opportunities for students to develop essential clinical skills in a controlled, realistic setting.

The project will also incorporate sustainable building practices, including energy-efficient lighting, water-saving plumbing fixtures and environmentally responsible construction materials, supporting long-term operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

Anticipated Completion Spring 2030
