Overview

The Expanded Quantum Research Labs project will provide specialized laboratory and support spaces for Stony Brook University’s growing quantum science and technology programs. Completed in advance of the proposed Quantum Research & Innovation Hub, the labs will provide near-term capacity for quantum research, specialized instrumentation and related activities.

Following completion of the Quantum Hub, the facilities will continue to serve as associated satellite spaces, extending the Hub’s research, equipment and collaboration capacity and supporting the continued growth of the University’s quantum programs.

Key Highlights

  • Specialized laboratory spaces supporting quantum research and instrumentation
  • Enhanced electrical, cooling and data infrastructure to meet advanced research requirements
  • Environmental controls supporting sensitive research equipment and instrumentation
  • Flexible laboratory layouts designed to adapt to evolving research needs and technologies
  • Dedicated research support and collaboration areas
  • Infrastructure designed to accommodate continued program growth and future research needs

Impact

The Expanded Quantum Research Labs will allow Stony Brook University to increase specialized quantum research capacity ahead of completion of the new Quantum Research & Innovation Hub. By establishing this infrastructure now, the project will support immediate research needs while laying the groundwork for the University’s broader quantum research environment.

Once the Quantum Hub is complete, the labs will remain an integral part of that environment, creating a connected network of specialized facilities that expands research and equipment capacity and provides flexibility for continued growth.

Anticipated Completion: Fall 2029
