Southampton Campus

The Southampton Campus is a key component of Stony Brook University’s long-term vision. The draft Facilities Master Plan identifies opportunities to reinvest in existing facilities, enhance student life, and position the campus for future academic, residential, and health-related growth.

 

Planning concepts for the Southampton Campus focus on strategic reinvestment and long-term flexibility. The plan outlines a repair or replace approach for aging facilities, targeted housing upgrades, and new opportunities for academic and health-related development. These concepts are intended to strengthen the campus while preserving its unique character and coastal setting.

  • Repair or replace strategy for the Natural Sciences Building
  • Light and gut renovations across existing student housing
  • Potential graduate and workforce housing
  • New flex student/conference housing
  • New SoMAS building
  • Welcome Center at Southampton Hall
  • Windmill restoration
  • Academic quad, amphitheater, and ceremonial drive enhancements
  • Wastewater treatment plant site planning
The plan includes renovations to existing housing to support student, conference, and workforce populations. These improvements are intended to enhance the residential experience while maintaining flexibility for seasonal and programmatic use. Additional housing may be considered based on future demand.
The Southampton Campus presents long-term opportunities for expanded academic and health-related uses. Planning concepts include potential partnerships tied to a new hospital, a Health Professions building, workforce housing, and medical office space. These opportunities will continue to be evaluated as the Facilities Master Plan advances.
