About the Creative Writing Major
The BFA is a highly selective creative writing program for the student serious about the art and craft of writing. Modeled on Stony Brook's renowned MFA in Creative Writing, the BFA offers the rigor of graduate-level coursework in a supportive close-knit community of working writers.
Every BFA student graduates with a complete creative project in the genre of their choice. One-on-one thesis mentorship, a cohort of dedicated peers, robust academics, and a thriving creative community provide an intimate liberal arts experience alongside the resources of a top-tier research university.
Creative writing students graduate prepared to enter a rapidly evolving job market; no other field requires the level of imagination, organization, flexibility, and resilience it takes to be a writer. The needs of the job market are unpredictable but if you can write a book, you can do anything.
