Lucio Castro

Film Faculty

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lucio Castro is a filmmaker whose work has premiered at major festivals around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlinale, and the New York Film Festival. Castro received a BA from the Center for Film Experimentation in Buenos Aires before moving to New York to study at Parsons School of Design. His debut feature, End of the Century (Fin de siglo), premiered at New Directors/New Films at MoMA in 2019 before screening at the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema, where it won Best Film in the National Competition. In 2025, The Guardian named it one of the five best queer films of the first quarter of the century. His second feature, After This Death, was produced by David Hinojosa and Kindred Spirit, and stars Mia Maestro, Lee Pace, Rupert Friend, Gwendoline Christie, and Phil Ettinger. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2025 and went on to screen at festivals around the world, including Tribeca, Edinburgh, Deauville, and São Paulo, receiving the Grand Jury Award at the New Hampshire Film Festival. IFC/Sundance will release the film to U.S. audiences in fall 2026. Castro’s third feature, Drunken Noodles, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the ACID section and had its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival in September 2025. Strand Releasing will bring the film to U.S. audiences in June 2026. His projects in development include The Night in the Night in the Night, with actress Gwendoline Christie, and an adaptation of Muriel Spark’s Loitering with Intent, supported by Film4. Castro has been a professor in the NYU Tisch Graduate Film Program since 2022.
