Jennifer Cody Epstein is the author of four critically acclaimed novels, including The Madwomen of Paris (2023), a finalist for the 2024 Edgar Award for Best Novel, and Wunderland (2019), a USA Today bestseller longlisted for the Simpson/Joyce Carol Oates Literary Prize. Her debut novel, The Painter from Shanghai, was a New York Times Editor’s Choice and an international bestseller, translated into 17 languages. A former foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, she has also reported and produced for NBC's Hong Kong, New York, and Washington, D.C. bureaus, and written for publications such as Vogue, LitHub, Publishers Weekly, McSweeney’s, and BookRiot. Epstein holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia, a master’s in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a BA in English and Asian Studies from Amherst College. She teaches in the BFA program at Stony Brook.
