Countdown to April 13, 2026!

ABOUT US

The Shirley Strum Kenny (SSK) Student Arts Festival is one of Stony Brook University’s most cherished spring traditions. The event’s namesake, former University President Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny, envisioned a campus that championed the arts. In her honor, SSK annually transforms our campus into a vibrant showcase of student creativity, cultural expression, and artistic excellence over the course of a month-long celebration.

Presidential Inauguration

The annual Shirley Strum Kenny (SSK) Student Arts Festival is a cherished tradition at Stony Brook University, celebrating the creativity and diversity of our campus community. In 2025, the festival will hold special significance as it serves as the kickoff with of the inauguration of our new President, marking a pivotal moment in the University’s history and the beginning of an exciting new chapter. This historic occasion will be commemorated by the ceremonial planting of a symbolic magnolia tree, long associated with renewal and growth at Stony Brook. Together, the festival and inauguration will unite artistic expression and institutional pride in a powerful celebration of leadership, community, and shared purpose.
