Ammann and Gray Room Change Request Follow-up

Dear Residents relocated out of Ammann and Gray,

At this time Housing Administration has sent all possible offers for those that responded to the Ammann/Gray Reassignment Request form. We are sorry to have to inform anyone who did not receive a move offer that we were not able to meet your request for various reasons; including lack of two spaces together to reunite roommates, and/or lack of available spaces in first year areas such as Mendelsohn, H, and Roosevelt Communities or a continuing student area for continuing students.

If you are experiencing difficulties in your current room, please contact your Residence Hall Director at https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/studentaffairs/res/about/contact_us.php.

We are permitting you all to start seeking room changes and swaps for other reasons outside of the form starting Wednesday, September 22 which is earlier than we will permit the general resident population to start. Do not contact an area office about your room change prior to Wednesday, September 22 as they will not be able to process that request as we are still adjusting your bookings from AM/GR to your new assignments and ensuring all transaction/charges are correct.

Important aspects of the room change process:

An important note about room changes for Gray and Ammann First-Year Students:

  • If you are in a first-year area (H, Mendelsohn, Roosevelt, or first year honors spaces in Yang), you can only perform a room change within these communities unless you are attempting to re-unite with your original Ammann/Gray roommate in a continuing student area.
  • If you are in a continuing student area (Kelly, Roth, Tabler, Lauterbur, or continuing student space in Yang), you can perform a room change or swap within the area you are in OR to any of the first year areas OR if in order to reunite you with your Ammann/Gray roommate you can seek a change to another continuing student area listed above.

An important note about room changes and swaps for Gray Continuing Students:

  • For those looking to return to H or Mendelsohn in corridor style continuing student housing. Benedict North (D/E Wings) are a blended building for first year and continuing, so you could seek a room change or swap into there, but at this time there is no space availability to do a room change. Occupancy levels may change, should someone else do a room change which may free up a space.
  • If you were on the West or Chavez/Tubman Waitlists prior to this notice being sent, we will prioritize you for those areas as we are able to make offers in them. We do not know if/when we will be able to make an offer as it requires a space to be available. Most offers are made over winter break.

Important Information about room change requests:

  • You cannot request a change to a fully vacant suite or apartment.
  • You cannot request a change to a fully vacant double.
  • You will have 2 business days from the time you get your new key at your meeting with the Area Office Staff to check out and return your old key.
  • Whenever you are approved for a room change, you will be billed for both spaces until you complete the room change process. Typically within 24 hours of completing your room change and turning in your old key you will see the charges adjusted on your student account.
  • First Years cannot change outside of the Undergraduate College Areas, except students relocated out of Ammann or Gray.
  • Undergraduates must have 57 credits or more and not be on residential probation to request a change to West Apartments or Chávez and Tubman Halls. There is no longer a GPA requirement.

Sincerely,

Housing Administration
