Other OpportunitiesCultivate Humanizing an Intentional Multicultural Experience for Professionals of Color (CHIME) CHIME is a balanced curriculum designed for Residential Education professionals of color to support this demographic throughout the recruitment, selection, residency within the position, and departure process. CHIME will incorporate implicit bias awareness concepts in the training of its participants via meetings, literature reading and analysis, journaling, visiting historical businesses/venues, and networking with various levels of the University’s other professional staff of color. The Department of Residential Education wants its current, incoming, and future professionals of color to be able to make an impact here at the University with our students and staff improve both themselves and our department, and progress the SBU community into the future by meeting the needs of both its students and staff through learning, genuine connections and advancement as Seawolves into the world. There are opportunities to mentor high school students in the local area with high school partners, as well as various work groups within Housing Administration. Additional Supervision Opportunities Residence Hall Directors may have the opportunity to provide guidance or oversight for groups such as the Residence Hall Association (RHA), the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), the Residential Tutoring Center (RTC), the Residential Resource Center (RRC), or the Resident Assistant Council. |

Residential Education at Stony Brook University offers professional development opportunities and supports the residential experience through various committees. Chaired by Residence Hall Directors with Assistant Director advisors, each committee includes representatives from Assessment and Diversity & Inclusion to ensure alignment with departmental goals, mission, and Core Values.

This committee oversees professional staff development through training, meetings, professional development plans, presentations, and conference attendance.

RADAR supports the full RA lifecycle, encompassing Recruitment & Selection and Training & Development, with a focus on enhancing the Resident Assistant experience.

AICE promotes student learning, development, and academic success by developing and assessing a residential curriculum that fosters a holistic and inclusive residential educational experience.

Focused on international students, transfers, sophomores, and other students, this committee fosters an inclusive environment to support students’ success during and after their transitions to the Stony Brook community.

CWEC organizes initiatives that build morale, foster a sense of belonging, and recognize student and staff achievements across the campus community.
