Biography:

In Mia's time at Stony Brook, they plan on studying prosthetics, orthopedics, and biological spinal care. In Mia’s free time, they like to write poetry, sing, and dance. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Mia participated in creating a Scoliosis Repair Youth Operation Guide for Dr. Baron Lonner M.D. Chief of Minimally Invasive Scoliosis Surgery and Pediatric Spine, to be distributed throughout Mt. Sinai Hospital’s orthopedics unit by researching and optimizing treatment for Post-Surgical Pediatric Scoliosis patients.

Leading the Future:

"I envision myself revolutionizing minimally invasive scoliosis surgery by lessening recovery time and the severity of surgical methods, as well as intertwining standard rehabilitation with extracurriculars and interests that ultimately result in more engaging patient-centered care."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I chose to become a Simon’s STEM Scholar because I want to be surrounded by diverse hardworking individuals who are determined to be at the forefront of research and who have passions for making a difference in STEM."

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"To someone thinking about applying to the Simon’s STEM Scholars program, just do it! Our Earth needs people with ambitions to make the world a better place, so be the change you want to see in the world."
