Admissions Criteria

To be eligible for the Simons STEM Scholars program you must be a high school senior or academically equivalent and entering your freshman year of college on the traditional timeline (ie; not transferring from Stony Brook or another institution into the program).

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA or an 87 on a 100 Point GPA scale.

Applicants must have at least completed Pre-Calculus or a math-equivalent by time of matriculation.

Applicants must have a personal commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion in the STEM fields.

Applicants must have a strong interest in research and a research based career.

Applicants are preferred to have demonstrated leadership and community service experiences. (If it is present on your Stony Brook Application we will see it there!)

Applicants are not required to be US Citizens in order to be considered. The Simons STEM Scholars program can not sponsor international student visas. If you have additional questions regarding this stipulation, please contact us at SimonsScholars@stonybrook.edu.




Simons STEM Scholars Accepted Majors

Students must apply within one of the majors listed below, with this being said as long as a student is in one of these majors, they may double major or minor in something not listed here if they wish under program funding:
