Biography:

In Joshua's time at Stony Brook, he plans on delving into drug discovery research. He is driven by the opportunity to join together scientific innovation with a deep commitment to sustainability. In Joshua's free time, he likes to play basketball, go to the gym, listen to music, travel and spend time with family and friends. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar Joshua participated in research at the University of Maryland College Park inside the Nutrient Energy Smart Lab where he converted organic waste into biomethane fuel through a process called anaerobic digestion.

Leading the Future:

"I envision myself leading the future of STEM by developing sustainable and accessible prescription drugs, while actively advocating for diverse voices and representation in STEM."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar because I wanted to join a community of scholars and faculty who are fully invested in my success, and I found that sense of support and belonging through this program."

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"I would say to be open-minded and go for it. The Simons STEM Scholars Program is a unique opportunity to reach your full potential, and it starts with broadening your perspective and embracing the unknown and all the possibilities that come with it."
