Biography:

In Ronicio's time at Stony Brook, they plan on researching several aspects of marine biology, while utilizing a variety of techniques such as comparative genomics. In Ronicio's free time they like to work on model trains, paint, listen to good music, and eat good food. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Ronicio participated in The Science Research Mentoring Program (SRMP) at AMNH.

Leading the Future:

"I want to become someone who is living proof that a scientist can come from anywhere. I want to change what it means to be both Queer and Latin in STEM. I want to become a pillar in my community, and eventually help lead the world of Marine Biology as a whole."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I needed a place where a community could come together and support each other. There are so many different people here from different walks of life. It let's me learn so much, and it's a place where people can learn about me. Everyone can exist as they are without judgment." 

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"You will be challenged, and to be challenged is to be changed. But I promise the change is for the better. You will grow so much, and you'll learn so much about yourself."
