Hometown: Bronx, NY

Major: Physics/Mathematics

Year: Sophomore

High School: The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology

Biography:

In Jaymie's time at Stony Brook, they plan on studying atmospheric science, specifically the physics of extreme weather and climate. They are most interested in using mathematical modeling to understand atmospheric dynamics, and philosophical reasoning to think critically about how we respond to climate change. In Jaymie's free time, they like to listen to music, laugh and read. They encourage folks to ask them what book they are reading (or listening too!).

Leading the Future:

"Through research, I hope to make climate science more accurate, but also more meaningful, especially for those most directly impacted by it. I hope to ask better questions, challenge assumptions, and encourage underrepresented people to see themselves in STEM."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar because the staff, scholars, and others affiliated with the program genuinely want to see us succeed. It is the ideal environment to learn and grow in."

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"Your passion will speak for itself. So long as you are true to yourself and your goals, you will succeed no matter where you end up. Make the most of every opportunity!"
