Biography:

In Eliana's time at Stony Brook, they plan on studying marine ecology and the impacts that climate change has on marine organisms. In Eliana's free time, they like to go on nature walks as well as play soccer. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Eliana participated in an internship at the Field Museum of Natural History where she studied the biodiversity of mice species in Southside Chicago parks.

Leading the Future:

"I plan on conducting research that will consistently aim to create a healthier and more sustainable environment. I not only see myself in research positions but also in mentorship positions where I can support those who are interested in STEM fields and who have limited opportunities. I want to take up space in STEM scenes where latinas are normally not found. "

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar because I understood that I needed to challenge myself in order to prepare for being a minority in STEM. I knew that the program would provide me with resources that I would not be exposed to otherwise. I also wanted to surround myself with others who would both push themselves and those around them to be well-rounded and academic scholars."

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"Be prepared to be pushed to limits you thought you couldn’t reach. This program prepares you and places you in situations where you can succeed in STEM and research. If you are looking for a strong community where people uplift and challenge each other, this is it."
