Biography:

In Caroline's time at Stony Brook, they plan on studying human biology and evolution. In Caroline's free time, they like to draw. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Caroline participated in Brookhaven National Laboratory's High School Research Program and was a research assistant under Dr. Alexis Redding at Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Leading the Future:

"I envision myself leading the future of STEM by being a passionate learner and advocate. I want to understand who we are beyond what we are now, but from what we were. Understanding these mechanisms is what will propel us forward."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar because the program not only supports my professional aspirations, but also fosters an environment that makes us more worldly, more deeply caring, and more inclusive individuals. Being in a community who is also driven and passionate is so important to reaching my goals."

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"To anyone thinking of applying, I encourage you to do so. Think deeply on exactly why STEM and research are so important to you. Your passion, your "why?", is so important to your success!"

Research Experiences:

Fall 2024 to present -  Stony Brook University: under Dr. Natasha Vitek on how protein levels affect rat teeth, and what that may indicate about past environmental conditions. Summer 2025 - HHMI Janelia Research Campus: under Dr. Rob Johnson on "Object Affordances and Problem Solving in Mice".Summer 2023 - Harvard Graduate School of Education: under Dr. Alexis Redding ona psychological research study with first-year college students, managing and transcribing data sets. Summer 2023 - Brookhaven National Laboratory: under Dr. Peter Guida on "Radiation-induced DNA Damage, Apoptosis, and Cell Death in NT2 Cells".
