Biography:

In Ashiyana's time at Stony Brook they plan to research biology, genetics, cancer cells, medical treatments, and classical civilizations. In Ashiyana's free time they like to play basketball, watch marvel movies, and hang out with friends. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar Ashiyana participated in Genspace as a Biorocket intern through the NYCSRM (New York City Science Research and Mentoring Consortium).

Leading the Future:

"I want to succeed in STEM so I can mentor and expand opportunities for other underrepresented groups. I believe diversity contributes to progressive innovation, so it's important to embrace equity by actively supporting people who are often overlooked."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"Initially, I wanted to be a Simons STEM Scholar for the financial support and research opportunities but I found something even more meaningful in the community, values, and mission of the program."

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"I would encourage students to apply because as a Simon STEM Scholar, we are always in an environment filled with supportive peers and mentors that push us to reach our full potential. You'll learn so much academically and personally."
