Biography:

In Amal's time at Stony Brook, she plans on studying machine learning, data science, and bioinformatics, with a focus on applying computational methods to healthcare and scientific discovery. In Amal's free time, she likes to read, crochet, paint, and spend time with friends and family. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Amal participated in the Inspirit AI Scholars Program where she developed machine learning models capable of detecting pneumonia from chest X-ray images, sparking her passion for applying artificial intelligence to healthcare challenges.

Leading the Future:

"I envision myself leading the future of STEM by pioneering interdisciplinary research that bridges artificial intelligence, data science, and medicine and creating innovative tools that not only advance scientific discovery, but also make healthcare more accessible, equitable, and impactful for communities worldwide."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:
