Biography:

Jeprika plans on studying neurobiology and behavior, specifically uncovering the neural mechanisms underlying sensory perception and homeostatic regulation in their time at Stony Brook. In their free time, Jeprika likes to work out and express themselves creatively through different outlets, such as poetry. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Jeprika participated in the Spatial Development Lab at Montclair State University as a Research Assistant. They also participated in the NJ STEAM tank as a cofounder of Chewsulin, an innovative way for diabetics to receive their insulin through infused gum to eliminate the need for injections. Jeprika is most excited about getting involved with research on-campus under their faculty of interest that aligns with their interests and letting their curiosity to learn flourish.

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

“I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar because I wanted to have a supportive tight-knit community where I could uplift and be uplifted by other scholars in our journey to excel in research and graduate studies.”

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

“Definity take the shot! This program is incredible and it is the future of Stony Brook University and STEM leaders.”
