Biography:

Aviya plans on studying biology, psychology and child development in their time at Stony Brook. In their free time, Aviya likes to tap into her creativity through art and music, enjoy nature by camping or swimming , and go on vacations. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Aviya participated in Cardozo Gateway to Higher Education Program, Sophie Davis Health Professions Mentorship Program, Summer Workforce Internship Program: Geospatial Research and the DaVinci Biomedical Program at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School. Aviya is most excited about Stony Brook’s campus culture and new lifelong friendships. She can’t wait!

Leading the Future:

“I see myself being a leader in solving the mistreatment of minorities in the medical field. It starts by educating the next generation of medical professionals in providing personalized care for ALL people because medicine is not a one shoe fits all type of field.”

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

“I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar, because I recognized my need for guidance in achieving my goals. I know that I cannot succeed all on my own so I chose to be a Simon STEM Scholar for that support system to keep me on my path of greatness.”

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

“Do it! You will be in for many surprises, opportunities, and friendships to keep you on your toes during your academic and social journey.”
