Biography:

Amalia plans on studying structural biology (vaccine and medicinal) and cell and molecular biology in their time at Stony Brook. In their free time, Amalia likes to play volleyball, paint and draw, watch movies, and listen to music. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Amalia did not participate in a previous research experience. Amalia is most excited about living on a campus and away from the city! Amalia is also looking forward to trying new things and staying involved in the community.

“I plan to conduct research to improve global access to vaccines and medicines.”

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

“The immense amount of support and essence of community. Since selection weekend I’ve felt uplifted and capable.”

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

“Do it. It is an incredible opportunity, and I recommend it to anyone with a passion in STEM. Also, stay true to yourself in the application process: don’t worry about what you might think the admissions team wants to hear, focus on what you want to say. Just represent yourself!”
