Mission

The PhysTEC Regional Network of Southeast New York is an alliance of college/university/secondary physics educators. Project leaders Angela Kelly and Keith Sheppard created the network and organize annual meetings held at the Stony Brook Manhattan Campus, which include representatives from local universities with preservice physics teacher preparation programs, physics teacher leaders from local professional organizations, and representative from alternative teacher certification programs, all located within 60 miles of the site meetings. Events feature networking opportunities and colloquia featuring physics teacher education experts to engage network members in advancing physics teacher education.

The overarching goals of the project are to 1) improve physics teacher preparation, 2) increase the recruitment and retention of physics teacher candidates, and 3) advance precollege physics teaching, learning, and participation.

The network’s efforts are coordinated in collaboration with PhysTEC to disseminate network goals and activities.
