Overview

Stony Brook University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.  (267-284-5000) www.msche.org. The MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). 

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education granted accreditation to Stony Brook University in 1957 and most recently reaffirmed our accreditation status on June 26, 2014.  Our next Mid-Point Peer Review is scheduled for 2020, and our next Self-Study Evaluation will be in 2023-24.

Accreditation is a means of self-regulation and peer review adopted by the educational community. The accrediting process is intended to strengthen and sustain the quality and integrity of higher education, making it worthy of public confidence.

Stony Brook University is accredited according to the guidelines and standards set forth by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and is subject to a self-study and peer review on a regular basis.
