Employee Appreciation Day, always observed on the first Friday in March, was created by Bob Nelson, an authority on employee engagement, in 1995. It coincided with the publication of his book 1,001 Ways to Reward Employees.
Stony Brook has hosted a few Employee Appreciation events, including our Stony Roadshow highlighting the HR Now Initiative.
