Sushi, Stir-fry, Salads And More Come To Roth Food Court

S3: Sushi, Stir-Fry and Salads

Stony Brook, NY, September 18, 2012 – The Faculty Student Association (FSA) and Campus Dining Services introduced a new dining option to Roth Food Court with the addition of S3: Sushi, Stir-Fry and Salads. This new concept is a fusion of freshly made Chinese, Thai, Korean, and Malaysian cuisine. The concept focuses on preparing food in small batches to provide students and other patrons with a unique and personal dining experience.

S3 brings an Asian flair to the U-Pick salad station with items such as baby tatsoi, wasabi mayo and citrus sesame dressing. Customers are able to watch professional sushi chefs create made-to-order sushi rolls for a diverse and flavorful selection of food. It features a rotating menu with an entrée selection that includes Chinese pineapple chicken, Thai style beef with asparagus, Hoisin tofu with baby bok choy or shrimp tempura. Three daily specials are available each day for lunch and dinner and all entrées are served with a choice of white, brown or fried rice. Customers can choose from a Dim Sum menu which includes sides like egg rolls, dumplings, and chicken pot stickers. The rotating menu is available on www.stonybrook.edu/dining.

“Campus Dining strives to exceed expectations by tailoring programs, services and dining venues to meet the needs of the students and the entire Stony Brook University community,” said David Conway, Campus Dining Director. “Roth’s fusion concept provides new and innovative services for residential and commuter students as well as faculty and staff who’d like to try something new.”

Members of the Meal Plan Resolutions Committee were consulted on S3 menu choices and pricing during the spring 2012 semester. The committee was instrumental in helping Campus Dining to expand vegetarian options of which nine different entrées are now included in the weekly menu rotation.

“Students can expect the menu to evolve through customer feedback and seasonality,” said Executive Chef John Hutchison. “We are always looking for ways to increase students’ choices on campus and the best way for us to do that is by listening to our primary customer: the students.”

The Roth Market has reopened with an expanded menu including comfort foods and a rotating Tex-Mex menu. All day Thursday and Friday, customers can choose from a variety of Mexican entrées and sides including pressed torta sandwiches, double tacos, and quesadillas. Throughout the rest of the week, Roth Market offers daily entrée choices like gyros, orange glazed turkey, and the famous mashed potato bowl. Roth Market also has vegetarian options included in their daily specials.

On Wednesday, September 26th from 12:30pm – 2:30pm during Campus Lifetime, Campus Dining Services will host a grand-opening celebration of the new S3 concept at Roth Food Court where customers can play games, win prizes and sample new dishes from S3 Fusion.
