Service Learning

Service learning is a form of experiential learning that integrates classroom learning with service activities to address the needs of the surrounding communities. It is a teaching tool that enhances student educational experiences, fosters civic engagement, and builds relationships between the university and the local community.

It provides students with hands-on opportunities to reinforce classroom learning, give back to the larger community, explore their interests, and develop transferable professional skills.

Service learning courses also fulfill the Stony Brook Curriculum Experiential Learning (EXP+) learning outcome through the application of knowledge and skills in real-world settings.
