Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics
Our Physical Chemistry program aims to decipher chemical mysteries through the lens of foundational physical laws, thereby driving innovation in new technologies and systems. We excel in blending theoretical insights with practical experiments in physical chemistry, enhanced by dynamic collaborations both within and beyond SBU. Our diverse research pursuits range from the foundational theories of statistical mechanics and quantum chemistry to hands-on experiments in nuclear chemistry, which impact basic understanding of atomic and molecular phenomena, relevant to polymers, materials science, and surface science. By exploring exciting phenomena from molecular dynamics to spectroscopy, we tackle pressing challenges across climate science, energy storage, catalysis, and quantum information.
