Ways to Give

Chemistry Department Fund for Excellence

The Chemistry Department Fund for Excellence provides essential discretionary financial support, giving the Chair the flexibility to respond to the Department’s greatest needs and to act quickly when opportunities arise, for example, to provide support fpr our research seminar program. These funds are among the University’s most valuable resources because they provide the Chair with the necessary support to respond to the Department’s most urgent unbudgeted needs and the ability to cultivate, sustain and further academic and research excellence on both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

A gift of appreciated securities may be an advantageous way for individuals to make a gift to the Chemistry Department by avoiding or reducing capital gains taxes. On the other hand, if you choose to use depreciated securities to make your gift, in most cases it will be more advantageous to sell the shares and give the proceeds to the Department.

Planned gifts offer an opportunity to help donors retain or receive income in addition to providing assets to the Chemistry Department. Please consult your legal and financial advisors to determine the tax advantages of making a planned gift to Chemistry. The Advancement Office (phone 631-632-1457 or  e-mail) would also be pleased to discuss with you the variety of ways that a planned gift can benefit you and your family as well as the Department.
