Itinerant Synthetic Organic Chemist

Detection of Creatinine by a Designed Receptor, Science, 269, 671 (1995).

Professor Bell's research was in the field of molecular recognition and medicinal chemistry. He developed metal binding torands and hexagonal-lattice, hydrogen-bonding receptors for organic molecules. He also discovered cyclotriazadisulfonamide compounds that inhibit HIV replication by a biochemically novel mechanism of action.
