Francis T. Bonner

Professor of Chemistry

francis bonner

1958-1992

Founding Chair of Chemistry 1958-1992

Scientist and Educational Innovator

Thermal Decomposition of Oxyhyponitrite (Sodium Trioxodinitrate(II)) in Aqueous Solution, Inorganic Chemistry, 14, 558 (1975).

Professor Bonner guided the development of the Chemistry Department, its undergraduate, its graduate, and its research programs, throughout its formative years. Professor Bonner's research centered on inorganic reaction mechanisms with particular emphasis on the aqueous chemistry of nitrogen oxides and their compounds and ions. At low pH, directly produced NO is formed by a redox process, not a dehydration reaction.
