Student Activities Center Vestibule RenovationRendering of new SAC vestibule

Department
Campus Planning, Design & Construction (CPDC)

Overview

The Student Activities Center, located on the main campus, features a two-story lobby spanning more than 5,000 square feet that serves as a central gathering space for students. The building currently has two undersized vestibules on the west and north sides, each consisting of inner and outer sets of six 36-inch swinging doors that were originally constructed in 1993.

Key Highlights

  • Creates welcoming, code-compliant entrances that improve accessibility and accommodate the high volume of pedestrian traffic entering the Student Activities Center from the Academic Mall.
  • Features a bold, contemporary design with modern architectural materials, including metal panel systems, curtain wall glazing, and new entrance doors.
  • Includes expanded vestibules that improve circulation and create a more inviting arrival experience.
  • Installs ADA-compliant automatic door operators with "wave-to-open" technology to enhance accessibility.
  • Adds new architectural LED lighting and illuminated building signage to improve visibility, safety, and the campus experience after dark.

Impact

The project will replace the existing north and west vestibules with larger, fully accessible, code-compliant entrances that integrate seamlessly with the building's existing glazed curtain wall façades. The expanded vestibules will feature larger entrance doors, increased interior space, and improved circulation to maximize ease of access for all visitors.

The new vestibules will also establish a bold, contemporary architectural identity for the Student Activities Center, creating a more welcoming and visually prominent entrance while complementing the adjacent campus plazas.

Anticipated Completion West Vestibule: Summer 2027

Anticipated Completion North Vestibule: Spring 2028
