Point of Woods Building Demolition

Department
Campus Planning, Design & Construction (CPDC)

Overview
This project abated and demolished the former three Point of Woods buildings located at the northeast corner of the hospital’s north entrance at Stony Brook University. The removal of these long-vacant, structurally unsound buildings cleared a highly visible site and improved the overall appearance and functionality of a key campus gateway.

Key Highlights

  • Abated and demolished multiple deteriorated structures
  • Removed long-standing safety and maintenance concerns
  • Improved sightlines and visual quality at a major hospital entrance
  • Prepared a marquee site for future development

Impact
The project enhanced the campus environment by eliminating unsafe, obsolete structures and opening the area for future redevelopment. Students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the surrounding community benefit from a safer, more welcoming entrance and the long-term potential of a newly available development site.

Completed February 2026
