The Stony Brook $1,000 Short Fiction Prize

Now in its 30th year!

The 2020 Stony Brook $1,000 Short Fiction Prize has been awarded to Ryan Cahill of Washington University in St. Louis for his story, “That Summer We Were Boys.”

This year, author Susan Minot ( Lust & Other Stories, Why I Don’ Write: And Other Stories) served as the judge for the contest, which received more than 300 submissions.

Runners-Up: Anna Dodson (Darmouth College) for “The Daphne”; Eleanor Jahns-Roerick (Bethel University) for “Okeefenokee Swamp”; Rachel Zhu (Boston University) for “The Face That Drained the Bohai Sea”; and Lisa Zhuang (Emory University) for “The Telepathist.”
