Skyler Day Harman (BS, 2024)
Skyler Day Harman, a News 12 meteorologist and Stony Brook University SoMAS alumni, was escaping Florida during Hurricane Irma, continuously pulling off the road to check in with the broadcast meteorologist to see if the conditions were safe to keep driving, when she realized that she wanted to be a meteorologist as a career. With the goal of eventually working in the tri-state area, she chose Stony Brook University because of its location, and as a New York resident the in-state tuition kept the price of her education low.
She graduated in 2024 with her Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. While at SoMAS, she loved being a member of the Meteorology Club, and loved the learning environment and community that was built with her fellow classmates and professors.
She encourages anyone interested in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences to look at the program at SoMAS, work hard and don't get discouraged. To Skyler, setbacks are learning opportunities!
