Josef Moses (BS / MS, 2025)
Josef Moses is a Stony Brook University alumni who began his atmospheric science career
in 2019 as a Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences major at School of Marine and Atmospheric
Sciences with a focus on meteorology. Josef started working with Dr. Brian Colle,
the Division Head of Atmospheric Sciences at SoMAS during the Spring 2022 semester,
creating hurricane graphics and recording fictional broadcasts to aid in the groups’
research about storm surge visualization and ethical considerations during emergency
events. In his junior year, Josef decided to pursue the five-year Atmospheric Science
BS / MS Program, with a focus in meteorology, tailoring his graduate studies to include
GIS coursework and a certificate in Science Communication. During his time at SBU,
Josef presented his work at several American Meteorological Society conferences.
Josef now works at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Caribou, Maine. Although a Long Island native, his transition to Caribou has been a great success and he is eager to continue applying his social science and communication background to the NWS initiatives!
