Olamide Afolayan

Biography

Olamide plans on studying biomedical rehabilitation, orthopedics, tissue engineering, 3-D bioprinting, biomechanics, medical imaging, and medical instrumentation in their time at Stony Brook. In their free time, Olamide likes to play soccer, listen to music, read the bible, and hang out with friends. They also like to act and sing as part of their church's choir. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Olamide participated in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Science Research Club, Emergency Medical Technician Training, and Coding Club. Olamide is most excited about the opportunity to be a researcher; the lessons and breakthroughs they are bound to meet during the course of their journey and their personal growth.

Leading the Future:

“I hope to develop solutions that can improve healing time for patients and contribute to building trust in newer technology in healthcare by giving back to the communities that lack proper healthcare access. My vision is to improve healthcare in marginalized communities by innovating new technologies and devices, especially in Nigeria.”

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?

Becoming a Simons STEM Scholar was a decision I believed aligned with my purpose. The Simons STEM Scholars program offered me resources, guidance, and support to continue a path where I could change the future. The community created by the program administrators was one I looked forward to when I was applying and I’m now proud to be a part of it.
