Biography
Aviya plans to study biology, psychology, and child development at Stony Brook. She enjoys expressing creativity through art and music, spending time outdoors through camping or swimming, and traveling. Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, she participated in several health, biomedical, and research-focused programs at Benjamin Cardozo High School. Aviya is excited for Stony Brook's campus culture and lifelong friendships.
Leading the Future:
Aviya hopes to help address the mistreatment of minorities in medicine by supporting education that prepares future medical professionals to provide personalized care for all people.
Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?
Aviya became a Simons STEM Scholar because she wanted guidance and a support system to help her stay on the path toward her goals.
Research Experiences:
Summer 2025: HHMI Janelia Research Campus with Dr. Alejandro Aguilera-Castrejon, working with CRISPR and stem-cell approaches in mouse embryo research.
Summer 2024: Stony Brook University with Dr. Gilbert Rahme, studying epigenetic lesions in IDH-mutant gliomas.
